STONY BROOK ROBOTICS TEAM
team's first graphic designer (2023-2024). president + PR director (2024-2025)
When I first joined Robotics at my university, the team was hit with a branding crisis.
We had a mascot, a logo, and flyers for our events... but branding has always been much more than that. As the team's first graphic designer, I wanted to do more with what we had. So, I made the team's branding kit, complete with a fresh set of new mascots to represent all the aspects of our org, as well as a color pallete, typography styles, and logo rules.
See below if you want to hear about the mascots' origin stories!
I redesigned our mascot, and named him Clank (see 1 in the 4-mascot image above). Clank represents our general body—just a happy little robot that zooms around on one gyroscoping wheel with helpful little clamps and a good attitude. He's always ready to hand you a spare part or do a little dance to cheer you up in lab!
Our team was comprised of more than just a general body, and I wanted to visually represent that through our mascots. So, I gave Clank siblings: Clunk, Cl!nk, and Clönk.
Clunk (2) represents Internal Competiton. This is an event we hold annually on the first Saturday of November that follows a month of mechanical, electrical, and software workshops built to teach students across disciplines how to build a robot from scratch. The event takes up a lot of our fall event space, and deserves a mascot to join the students' journeys of building a bot for competition in November. In comes Clunk, Clank's evil twin, who loves to innovate (but for the purpose of getting in Clank's way!)
Cl!nk (3) represents our GBM, or general body members! She's Clank's younger sister and a futuristic robot who's ready to float to the next event and meet new people. Cl!nk has a happy face to greet you on every flyer, and when you walk in the door for our next workshop, seminar, or casual event. She can be found with her three siblings on flyers to make sure everyone's included in the fun!
Finally, we have Clönk (4, and my favorite of the four!)... they are Clank's prototype, but was to sweet to be scrapped for parts. They represent our team's mentorship program, offered throughout the entirety of the spring semester. Our senior members mentor underclassmen in passion projects meant to build their skills in an offline setting to foster engineering skills outside of the classroom. They may not have the brightest OLED screen, but this ragtag bot is a perfect representative for the prototyping process that takes place during mentorship.
SBRT INTERNAL COMPETITION (2023 + 2024)
annual competiton hosted by SBRT to introduce robotics enthusiasts of various skill levels to the craft through a day-long competition, preceded by a month of workshops and tutorials

SBRT CLANK TANK (2025)
founded "Clank Tank", a remodel of SBRT's traditional mentorship program that features student-lead engineering project proposals that are reviewed and funded by the team. chosen projects will access funding, guidance, and mentorship to bring the mentee's best foot forward
